@sailorblooms is my personal brand on Instagram. It is a part of the large online houseplant community. As a side project, my love of design and mental health has been showcased through my Instagram page. My work has been featured in campaigns such as Bell Let’s Talk day, online magazines such as Apartment Therapy, The Sill and gallery exhibitions in Toronto such as Swash & Serif, which led me to teach plant care and plant styling workshops across Toronto.

A focus on mental health
As I go through my mental health journey, I sometimes share my inner thoughts out to the world. Sometimes when you are dealing with life, you forget to do the most basic human functions. Doing something as simple as showering, even getting out of bed can be a struggle for so many of us. So if you did those, consider it as an accomplishment.
It is so easy to put up a façade and pretend that everything is okay—even when it's not. But trust me, you are not alone.
To All The Plants I've Loved Before
Raise your hand if you're guilty of killing houseplants! Based on Jenny Han's Novel "To All The Boys I've Loved Before," I wanted to create a parody based off plants. Caring for houseplants can become a stressful task, especially when you start hoarding plenty of them (also guilty of this).
This is a reminder that plants can turn yellow and wilt on us, but that is the cycle of life. Understand that sometimes, it is out of our control and we cannot do anything about it. Just like the seasons changing, spring will come again and remind yourself that you are resilient like plants.
“Jan at @sailorblooms does amazing design work with her feed and stories. The posts are poetry, their stories are vulnerable and relevant, all tied in with an incredible aesthetic that highlights not only the beauty of plants, but the ways in which they touch our hearts and feed our souls.”
